Data Protection Workshop
DCU Business School, DCU, 2nd December 2015: IC4 hosted a full-day industry workshop on data protection. This workshop addressed the current data protection issues, both from a regulatory and practical perspective. IC4 was delighted to introduce a strong line up of industry and academic experts on the subject and based on the high level of attendance and engagement at the workshop, it is clear that data protection continues to be key industry concern.
Wendy Hederman, Partner of Mason Hayes & Curran, discussed directors’ duties with regard to data protection and data breach responses. .
Dr. Katherine O’Keefe, Founder and Lead Consultant of Castlebridge Associates, described the current data protection regulation landscape in Ireland and Europe and outlined expectations for future development.
Valerie Lyons, IC4 Researcher, discussed the importance of information security considerations in adopting cloud computing solutions and presented a walkthrough of IC4’s related risk assessment questionnaire.
Andrew Harbison, Director of Grant Thornton, presented a technical analysis of the most recent malicious data breaches in Ireland and internationally.
Dr. Pierangelo Rosati, IC4 Post-Doc Researcher, discussed costs associated with a data breach, beyond financial penalties.
Professor Theo Lynn, Principal Investigator of IC4, discussed how to recover stakeholders’ trust after a data breach.
