Deriving value from structured data is now commonplace. The value of unstructured textual data, however, remains mostly untapped and often unrecognized for practitioners and researchers alike. For practitioners, this presentation reflects on the text analytical journey that a company undertook in order to achieve superior customer service. Based on its experiences, the presentation shows how topic modelling, as a textual analytical technique, can provide a set of valuable lessons.
For researchers, this presentation illustrates the value of topic modelling for studying individuals’ cognitive and affective evaluations with regards to an IT artefact. Using a dataset of more than 60,000 textual mobile app reviews over a 6-year period, it provides a new perspective on how text analytics can possibly supplement existing research methods in their ambition to shed light on the nature of evaluative constructs as well as to decipher the strength of their established relationships over time.
