Introduction to Search Engine Optimisation
DCU Business School, in conjunction with the Irish Centre for Cloud Computing and Commerce, is delighted to invite you to the seminar on "Introduction to Search Engine Optimisation". This event will take place on Thursday, June 14, 2018, in DCU Business School, from 1400-1700.
Search engine optimisation (SEO) is the process of affecting the visibility of a website or a webpage in a search engine’s unpaid results. SEO plays a fundamental role in optimising the success of a website, as research shows the majority of search engine users do not look beyond the first page of returned results. SEO generates high-quality traffic by ensuring that the site ranked highly for chosen keyword phrases after a user performs a search query. SEO is changing rapidly as a result of voice and mobile technologies and the introduction of special content results boxes, Google my Business and device action results for smart home devices.
As well as those interested in marketing, communications and business practice, SEO is extremely relevant for any staff, faculty or researchers responsible for dissemination activities on projects.
This seminar will cover the following topics:
- How search engines work
- Future of search
- The relationship between page quality and search engine rankings
- The relationship between need met and search engine rankings
- Common SEO tactics to optimise page quality and needs met
- Getting ready for Mobile First
- Answers to frequently asked questions on SEO by Irish firms
- Bad practices to correct and avoid
This seminar will be presented by Professor Theo Lynn. Professor Lynn is Professor of Digital Business at DCU Business School and Principal Investigator of the Irish Centre for Cloud Computing and Commerce. He specialises in the role of digital technologies in transforming business processes.
